That’s A Wrap is a relatively new site that is run by three gentlemen that are film media scholars two of which are professors and teach various film courses. The 3rd podcast consists of 2 segments. In the first the three hosts talk about their top five television shows in the 21st century. In the second episode they discuss the documentary Side by Side.
The Side by Side segment starts at the 51:47 mark. The discussion was quite thoughtful. Among other points raised they highlight that film is technological as well as artistic in nature and you can’t have the artistic quality without the technology. They also rightfully point out that every director and cinematographer that is interviewed worked with both film and digital and were in a unique position to participate in the discussion. One of the professors makes the point that switching to digital exclusively will result in the loss of an entire skill set in future students. He talks about some of the skills that are learned by working with film. It was an interesting discussion.
