Grantland has posted an exclusive excerpt from the book Last Night at the Viper Room: River Phoenix and the Hollywood He Left Behind. The excerpt is a good read and details some of what went on behind the scene of My Private Idaho. Much of the information is pieced together from the various interviews that both River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves did during the press and promotion of the film.

Let me also say that the 20 year anniversary of River’s death is on October 31. While some parts of the book may be riveting and based on information from interviews, the author has also injected his own allegations on River’s death into the book that were in poor taste in my opinion.
