Media Play News is reporting that The Matrix will be released in a 4K UHD Blu-ray combo and in digital on May 22, 2018. The film was chosen for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being culturally, historically and aesthetically significant back in 2012. You can read the details at the link. The 4K UHD Blu-ray combo will contain previously released extras that were found in earlier disc releases (detailed below).
The Matrix Ultra HD Blu-ray contains the following previously released special features:
- A written Introduction by the Wachowskis;
- “Philosopher” commentary by Dr. Cornel West and Ken Wilbur;
- “Critics” commentary by Todd McCarthy, John Powers and David Thomson;
- “Cast & Crew” commentary by Carrie-Anne Moss, Zach Staenberg and John Gaeta; and
- “Composer” commentary by Don Davis with the music only track.
The Matrix Blu-ray contains the following previously released special features:
- “The Matrix Revisited”;
- “Follow the White Rabbit”;
- “Take the Red Pill”;
- Marilyn Manson “Rock is Dead” Music Video;
- A teaser trailer;
- The theatrical trailer; and
- TV spots.
