David Wiegand has reviewed the 1 hr long version of Side by Side that will air on PBS this Friday for the SFGate. Wiegand starts the piece off saying:
“Side by Side: The Science, Art and Impact of Digital Cinema,” featuring Keanu Reeves as narrator and on-camera interlocutor, is magnificently detailed in how it traces the evolution – one might say “revolution”- from photochemical filmmaking to digital.
From there he mentions some of the points that are covered in the film and ends with:
The documentary would have been that much better with a more explicit focus on why the average filmgoer should care.
