Oliver Lyttelton is reporting that rumors around London back in December were that there were to be 6-8 weeks of reshoots planned for 47 Ronin and Universal was bringing in another director for them. Although Universal claims that the delayed release date for the film was needed to tweak the 3D effects, it appears to be well know in the film community that there were substantial reshoots that added to the films already huge budget. At this point, it is not clear if the reshoots were directed by Rinsch or someone else. While kept relatively quiet, reports leaking out of the special screening of 47 Ronin on May 9 were mostly negative. In addition to the reshoots a new editor was brought in according to the Lyttelton. Hopefully both will be sufficient to rescue the film.
