Calum Marsh chatted with Keanu Reeves about directing his first movie for Esquire. During the course of the interview Keanu talked about some of the directors he worked with through the years and their styles that influenced him. He also talked about being on sets and paying attention to how sets were lit and what the camera was doing. When asked if he how involved he was with deciding who would play what part, he shot back:
I was the director!
There have many interviews centered on Man of Tai Chi from the China release and now the TIFF premiere. While no one interview gives a complete look at how Keanu came to direct or how he approached it, there are lit bits here and there scattered through all of the interviews that start to coalesce into a picture picture. This interview added some tidbits to that picture
