Keanu Reeves’ Interview with El Observador

Yesterday El Observador posted a short video interview with Keanu Reeves. Today they have posted the entire written interview which contains much more than what was in the clip. The clip part of the interview is towards the end.  It translates well with the google translator.

The El Observator reporter asked Keanu Reeves for an interview out side of the Sofitel Hotel on on Tuesday morning. Keanu said : “On Wednesday at 11:00 and only five minutes.” He finished his cigarette and climbed into the car and was off. Shortly after he was seen at a clothing store and then had lunch at Footprints restaurant.

He arrived for the interview on Wednesday an hour and a half late and reminded the staff that he only has five minutes.

He was casually dressed in jeans, a faded shirt and his cap on backwards. He appeared shy and elusive and they found that surprising for someone so accustomed to stardom.

EO; Did you know about Uruguay before coming?

KR: For me it was a strange place , I was not familiar with the country.

EO: Did you know about José Mujica or the legalization of gay marriage and marijuana?

KR: Ah yes, the political situation … When I started telling people that came to Uruguay mentioned some of those things and sound good .

EO: What do you think about the figure of Mujica ?

KR:He is the president . But Uruguay is well known in the world for these measures.

Yes sounds very progressive, that kind of thing that should be happening.

EO: What have you been doing these days ?

KR: I’m here on vacation and for a wedding , I am very honored to have been invited to the wedding . I went to Punta del Este, La Barra , Jose Ignacio and now I’m here.

EO: On Tuesday when you went to José Ignacio for lunch at a restaurant, you decided to leave when he saw reporters. How do you cope with fame? What are the limits?

KR: I am very glad that people enjoy the work I do , is part of the creative process , and I really love that, I know people say ‘hello’ . But sometimes in your personal life when you come to a place like a restaurant where you want to be with friends, to have the presence of the press and television channels … for me that is a limit. It is uncomfortable to be filmed while you are having lunch.

EO: Although it is a celebrity world not much is known about his private life . How do you manage ?

KR: I do not get out much and I am a very private person .

EO: I do not know if it’s because of characters in your movies but you give the image of a quiet person . How is Keanu Reeves beyond fame?

KR: He is very good, has a great sense of humor, is intelligent, has a wonderful curiosity about the world, likes motorcycles, loves acting and directing and want to tell stories.

EO: You’ll be 50 this year . How do you balance your life?

KR: I am very grateful to be following my passion. I’m a little extreme , or is that in terms of balance sometimes have more balance and sometimes not. Some days it’s all work and have no life , and sometimes there is a little life in that job.

EO: What you like to do ?

KR: After working on a film for six months when I come home I enjoy spending time with friends or family.

EO: You’ve been working on both big budget films and independent films . With what feels more comfortable?

IKR:  feel comfortable in both genders. I always wanted to act in as many genres as possible. Sometimes the independent movies can be very popular or less popular you can do stories like A Scanner Darkly or Generation Um . For me this is what history is , and what is the character who is the director.

EO: How was your directing debut ? Would you like to continue doing ?

KR: I loved directing, Man of Tai Chi , a kung -fu ( sets tone as if making the announcement of an advertisement) . I hope you have seen and enjoyed. I would love to continue to lead in the future, just have to find a story to tell.

EO:Would you like to do TV series or Netflix ?

KR: I’ve thought, I’m developing a story now called Arcadia. I like the different ways you can tell a story on television, in a sense that it is much more ope .

EO: What is the character that has made you most proud ?

KR: It’s hard to say, I had the opportunity to play many different roles, I think if I look back at some of the roles I went to the river bank , my private world, Little Buddha, Matrix, Devil’s Advocate, Constantine, directing this film Man of Tai Chi.

EO: Has there been a movie that was a turning point in your career?

KR: I loved making bankruptcy Point in fact changed my life, in the sense that then allowed me to action. What do bankruptcy Point High speed I could do that then allowed me to Matrix. But probably one of the best roles was that of the Devil’s Advocate .

EO: What are the dreams you have , what things you like to do ?

KR: I am developing some scripts and hopefully I can keep telling stories.
