Robert Yaniz, Jr. posted a piece on Eli Roth and Knock, Knock for Screen Rant a month ago. He writes:
The plot of Knock Knock centers on two young women who seduce a married man and turn his perfect life upside down.
At this point, it’s unknown if Knock Knock will have some kind of supernatural twist or if the film will play out as an obsession thriller in the vein of Fatal Attraction. Given Roth’s previous work, it’s a good bet that the two women who propel the film’s story aren’t all that they seem.
The article is reporting that the production budget is $10 million and they make a point of saying that while that is low for your typical Hollywood film, for Roth it is on the high end of what he does. His last film, The Green Inferno, has gotten much studio attention but Yaniz says that Knock, Knock has the potential to get more widespread distribution.
I get the feeling from some of the press releases yesterday that the industry thinks highly of Roth. After reading some of the comments from folks who have seen Roth’s films and commented on this article, they have a different opinion of his work.
Update: Another piece with more info is below.
Jeff Snelder wrote a piece for The Wrap on Roth and his new horror movie, Knock, Knock back on February 21. He reports that Roth will direct the original screenplay that he wrote with Nicolas Lopez and Guillermo Amoedo. It seems unlikely that a remake would be ‘advertised’ as an original screenplay but that remains to be seen. The piece also refers to Roth as a horror junkie.
If you follow one of the links in the article, you can read a review of The Green Inferno, a cannibalism film, which is to be released in September.
