Mike Fleming is reporting for Deadline that Carl Rinsch has not been pulled off of 47 Ronin. He has been at work all week editing the film along with Universal representatives. As a first time director, Carl Rinsch does not have final cut of 47 Ronin. Usually the studio doesn’t interfere with the editing of a film. However, it is not uncommon for a studio to take part in the editing process especially when it is a difficult shoot and it’s a first time director. When push comes to shove, it’s the studio’s job to protect their investment.
Mr. Fleming notes that Carl Rinsch is opinionated and that may have ruffled feathers of the crew, sparking the rumors that he had been removed from the film. Regardless, the fact that the film will open on December 25, 2013 is a strong indication that film will successfully overcome it’s difficulties.
