According to the interview with Mark Dacascos that appeared in the Empire May 2019 issue, he was offered the part of Zero after Hiroyuki Sanada dropped out of the John Wick 3 production. He had eight hours to get ready and get on a plane to NYC. Shortly after landing, he began filming scenes with Laurence Fishburne and Keanu Reeves. He literally had no time to prepare for the role.
