A short article from the Sugar Sweet Sunshine bakery where the cupcake scene was shot for Generation Um…
– It didn’t start out as an excellent adventure, but Keanu Reeves eventually found The One. The “Matrix” star ventured to the Old Homestead Steakhouse in the Meatpacking District for dinner last Friday, but as soon as he sat down, a swooning pack of models swarmed his table. Staffers quickly moved Reeves’ party to the back of the restaurant, but before he could even glance at the menu, patrons there approached for photos and autographs.
Finally, Reeves was relocated to the steakery’s second level, where he and his guests polished off their sirloin and porterhouse steaks in peace.
We hear Reeves impressed the wait staff with his wine smarts, ordering bottles of Silver Oak 2005 and Joseph Phelps Insignia 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon. Totally awesome vino, dude.
I believe this was the Generation Um wrap party.

It was Saturday night, we were out in Soho after dinner with our other sister and niece. It was late and after a number of drinks, we’d finally decided to call it a night. I was standing outside the bar chatting it up with some new friends and my sis runs out yelling, “Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh,” I just met and hugged Keanu Reeves.”

I love seeing new faces so I always take a quick glance around and then I stop looking, but this time there was a face that I had to keep staring at. It looked to me like it was Keanu Reeves. He had a scruffy, big beard though and pretty regular clothes and was reading a newspaper. People kept getting on and off the subway and no one else was even glancing at him. I started watching him closely and remembering his mannerisms that I had seen so many times in movies…

“Up from the Vault” will feature some of the most iconic stars of the last nine decades, including Judy Garland, James Cagney, Joan Crawford, Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Marlon Brando, Natalie Wood, Vivien Leigh, Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Jane Fonda, Keanu Reeves, Denzel Washington and Heath Ledger.
Keanu was recognized by the Academy as being an iconic figure and was featured in their gallery display.
“Keanu and Charlize were having a great time!” one restaurant employee tells us exclusively. “They were constantly laughing, almost disrupting other tables with how loud they were. They were wrapped up in each other’s conversation and having a great time together.”

KEANU REEVES likes to play the nice guy. “They’re not always easy characters, but they’re a pleasure to play,” he said Monday night during a screening for his new movie, “Henry’s Crime,” a comedy about a bank heist in which he plays the title role. “There’s a feel-good element to it.”

Keanu Reeves at the MCN Bike show at Excel in London. I did speak to him, I asked if I could have a photo taken with him and he said yes after he’d had his photo taken with another man. He did that and then walked off….tsk tsk. I stalked him for a bit (not really) and managed to get fairly decent photo of him. He’s got a really, really deep voice.

Here’s the first article announcing that Keanu was in talks to secure financing for MOTC.

Okay now that I’ve caught my breath, recovered from constantly saying “ohmygod I met Keanu Reeves” and somewhat retrieved my sanity I figured I could share the whole Keanu story. So here we go:
On Thursday I saw on Twitter that Keanu would be signing his book at the LACMA on Sunday. And then I proceeded to tweet, squeal and melt all within thirty seconds. And then I told Matt that I HAD TO GO (and he was coming with me)…
Note: For those interested in him can ignore the fact that the ass zit was also in attendance.
Keanu’s commentary about Tacita Dean in The Univlever book on her:
“The biggest difference I have found when working photochemically versus digitally on motion pictures is the length of time the takes can last. Broadly, a 1,000ft roll of 35mm film lasts around nine-and-a-half minutes before running out, while a digital tape or recording card or hard drive can last from 40 minutes to over an hour and a half. This translates to a very different rhythm on the floor; the pressure to “cut” to save film is alleviated.
Archiving digital images is a technological dilemma. The idea of that discovered shoebox of pictures, or wedding album, will not exist digitally in your camera or on your computer or in a “cloud”: you should print them. I often feel a photochemical image contains the mass of the subject and dimension; a digital image often feels as if it is mass-less. This could be nostalgia or simply how I learned to see. Others will not have this learning: they will probably never experience a photochemical image. Is this loss a tragedy, a revolution, an evolution? What have we lost, and what have we gained?
I will miss walking on to a photochemical film set. It has a magic to me. When the director says: “Action”, and the film is rolling, it feels like something is at stake. It feels important and intense. In a way, death is present in the rolling of that film – we live, right now – and the director says: “Cut”. And that moment in time is captured on film, really.”
