Chinese site Mtime is reporting that the Beijing International Film Festival film market will be held this year from April 20 to April 22. The film market, which is one of the main activities of the BIFF, will focus its attention this year on ‘show promotion’. They hope to build a sustained integrated service platform that will drive the development of the Chinese film industry and enhance Beijing’s international influence in the industry.

The current film market will cover seven areas: display market trading, venture capital and negotiating  the project roadshow, the signing ceremony (contracts?), market screenings, seminars and an industry exhibition.

Industrial Projects Roadshow

This area deals with the involvement of industrial projects from different segments of the film industry, including film investment in production projects, theater building projects, the film base and real estate construction projects, movie capital investment and financing projects and micro-movie projects. The China-US co-produced Man of Tai Chi, which Keanu Reeves directed and appeared in, will be be featured in the industry roadshow project conference at this year’s film market. Keanu Reeves will visit the release site.

The Chinese article is here.

Editor’s Note: It is not clear from the article if Keanu will be there to talk about co-producing films with China or if he will be screening Man of Tai Chi at the film market. We know from comments tweeted at the recent screening in the UK that the special affects aren’t done and you can still see the wires worn by the actors in the fight scenes. We also know from the recent German interview that Keanu said he would spend the next eight weeks working on post-production of MOTC. Usually when you screen films at film markets, it is to attract distributors. MOTC already has its distributors locked up, so if a ‘not quite finished’ MOTC is shown, it may be for the purpose of showing what is possible. Hopefully we will learn more in April.
