Composer Andy Brown has posted a short clip on Vimeo from the recording session of the 47 Ronin soundtrack. The clip is accompanied with the following text:
LMO recently recorded Ilan Eshkeri’s score for a new Universal studios film – 47 Ronin at Air Lyndhurst Hall.
Based on an ancient Samurai story and co-written by Chris Morgan, Hossein Amini and Walter Hamada, 47 Ronin tells the story of a band of Samurai who set out to avenge the death and dishonour of their master at the hands of a ruthless Shogun..
Ilan Eshkeri wrote for 57 strings over 6 sessions and a 15 piece brass section with timpani, also for 6 sessions. LMO was led by David Juritz and conducted by Andy Brown. Orchestrations were by Julian Kershaw and Teese Gohl who also co-produced the recordings with Ilan Eshkeri and Steve McLaughlin.
There were also several sessions involving Japanese musicians including Joji Hirota (Teikos and Shakuhachi), Keiko Kitamura (Koto and Shamisen) and Emi Watanabe (bamboo flutes) and LMO principal Caroline Dale recorded extensive cello solos.
