Generation Um: “An original and compelling New York movie.”

Many thanks to Mark Mann for tweeting the link!

Hugh MacLeod has posted one of the most insightful reviews of generation Um that I have read to date over at gapingvoid.

First of all, Hugh MacLeod  knows writer and director Mark Mann. You learn early in the article that Mr. Mann thinks New york is great and that “everybody’s insane with loneliness”. As Mr. MacLeod recounts some of their encounters, you start to get a feel for the city and the nuances of the culture there and what it can mean.

With respect to the film, Hugh MacLeod says:

It’s a film about 24 hours in the life of  three New York failures. And it ain’t pretty. No. really. It is REALLY bleak, dark and ugly. But it’s also very, very real. Yeah, if you fail in New York, this is kinda what it looks like.

It’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time, and I’m not just saying that because he’s my friend. I was genuinely stunned by how much it hit me, right in the gut.

It’s a good review and definitely worth a read as it gives some context to the film  The entire review can be read here.
