Ron Deutsch interviewed Keanu Reeves and Chris Kenneally for Documentary. This interview covers a lot of the basics about Side by Side including how the project came to be, recounts some of the topics touched on, and some points made by key interviewees. Although only 70 interviews made it into the final film, Keanu Reeves says the following:
“We actually spoke to over 140 people,” Reeves says. “Everyone was pretty open about sharing their opinions, their thoughts and experience. And I love speaking about movies, so for me, it was fun. But we did have to make some choices as to who to cut.”
Keanu talks about specific conversations he had with Robert Rodriguez and David Lynch and how he gained an appreciation of things as a result. He also ponders what is lost with the transition from celluloid to digital.
Deutsch mentions that it was both entertaining and interesting to see Keanu on the other side of the interview table. Keanu had the following to say when asked what advice he would give to interviewers:
” 1) Listen; 2) It’s not about you, it’s about them; and 3) Be prepared. Those are my three rules of interviewing.”
Definitely a good read, the entire interview can be found here.
