Kevin Jagernauth from The Playlist describes Keanu Reeves as a tech nut who is looking to change the game with the use of the Bot & Dolly Iris in his directorial debut. Keanu is hoping to show case the hand-to-hand combat of the kung fu sequences in a new way with the use of the robotic cameraman. Keanu has been talking about making a good, solid kung fu movie and the proof of concept video indicates that he will do just that. As Mr. Jagernauth says this with respect to the clip:
…it’s still a pretty good behind the scenes look at the movie, so give it a quick spin below. And frankly, this seems far more exciting than a “Bill & Ted’s 3.”
Kenji Lloyd from Hey U Guys says:
…Man of Tai Chi is likely to be one of the best action films of next year.
…It sounds – and looks here – like a very impressive setup, and gives us yet another reason to look forward to Reeves’ debut behind the camera.
Ethan Anderson from First Look says:
…A behind the scenes video of Reeves getting ready to shoot by testing out a motion-control camera called Iris from the company Bot & Dolly, that looks to make for some pretty impressive cinematography.
Brendon Connelly from Bleeding Cool writes:
The film is, as the title suggests, going to feature quite a lot of martial arts, and Reeves, as his job title suggests, is wanting to capture it for the screen with some style and efficacy.
Russ Fischer from Slash Film writes:
…Reeves almost certainly isn’t the first to shoot fights with this sort of approach (The Matrix sequels likely used a more tech-limited version), but I like the intent that he expresses in the video. I hope that works out well for the film.
