For Side by Side fans, articles are starting to appear in anticipation of it’s premiere on PBS.
Frank Barron wrote a piece for Entertainment Today. The article contains the following money quote by Keanu:
“I went into the documentary asking ‘Is it the end of film?’ a year ago. And now, film stocks are getting harder to get, and who’s going to develop it? There still seems to be an artistic pushback that I think will help it survive in a niche way. There are people who speak about the unique aspects and qualities of a photochemical experience, and they’re kind of the protector of that flame.”
Alex Strachan wrote an article for the Calgary Herald. The piece is a good review with some good quotes. Notably, Keanu mentions that Micheal Mann used a new digital camera for his 2004 film Collateral that enabled him to capture the night sky that was lit up by the city lights. The light sensitivity of this digital camera was a breakthrough in this area.
