Dylan Griffin reviewed the film for Sound on Sight. It sounds like he is a Roth fan and gets his work. It is a good read. Here are a few quotes, one of which was a real attention getter (bold):
Watching an Eli Roth film is the cinematic equivalent of passing a kidney stone. It’s painful, exhausting, nauseating, and makes you wish you were dead. Which is why it’s such a surprise that his latest, Knock Knock, is actually kind of great in its own twisted and campy way.
Roth gives him ridiculous dialogue that he translates into camp glory. Now just imagine Reeves yelling things like “I fucked you??!! YOU FUCKED ME!!! YOU FUCKED ME!!!”, and trust that seeing it happen on screen is even more glorious than it sounds.
Knock Knock is Roth’s most measured work to date, but it does still carry some of his filmmaking’s more significant pitfall… Even so, this is by far the best work Roth has ever done, a highlight for Reeves, Izzo and de Armas, and a damn fun time at the movies.
