Keanu Reeves month continues over at Sound on Sight. Ricky D takes another look at Speed. In addition to looking at the characters, Ricky D speaks to director Jan DeBont’s adeptness at filming the action sequences in a way that achieves the goal of keeping the audience at the edge of their seats.
For me the best part was the additional thoughts at the very end of the piece. I knew that De Bont was a cinematographer. I did not know that he came up with the idea for the opening elevator sequence from his own experience. Apparently while working as a cinematographer on Die Hard, he was stuck in an elevator on the 40th floor and had to escape by climbing out of the escape hatch.
