Many thanks to astrupfearnley for sharing a photo of a handwritten note by Keanu Reves on instagram. He included the following comment with the photo:
“Mi casa es su casa. Make this the best summer of your life. – Keanu”
This handwritten note by Keanu Reeves sets off the narrative of Alex Israel’s new movie SPF-18 that follows the lives of four 18-year-old friends who come of age and discover their creative voices one fateful surf-filled summer in Malibu, while housesitting for Keanu Reeves.
Alex Israel is an Los Angeles based artist. In an article about the artist for W Magazine back in January 2016, Christopher Bagley wrote the following:
Today’s production is not a TV reunion special but Israel’s latest artwork: a feature film with a cast of young unknowns and cameos by ’80s and ’90s icons like Molly Ringwald and Keanu Reeves. Titled SPF-18, the coming-of-age drama follows four California teenagers as they learn the importance of creativity and self-expression against a backdrop of surf sessions, Viper Room concerts, and beachside sexual awakenings.
There is also a write-up on intented use of the film in high school education here.
