TIFF Retrospective Comes to A Close with A Scanner Darkly

This Friday, A Scanner Darkly will be the last film to screen in the TIFF Retrospective: Whoa. The Films of Keanu Reeves.

Scott A. Gray has a review of A Scanner Darkly up at exclaim.ca. With respect to Keanu, he says:

In a stellar example of smart casting, Reeves plays the burnt out narc losing touch with reality, Bob Arctor. His spaced-out laconic drawl is perfect for a professional mind slowly succumbing to the junky lifestyle.

He also talks about the effectiveness of using rotoscope animation for this particular film and the appropriateness of the warp acoustics of Graham Reynold’s score for the film. He closes saying:

Equally sad, funny and fascinating, A Scanner Darkly is the kind of thoughtful and emotionally resonant science fiction that deserves to be rediscovered…
