An Updated Review of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure

Many thanks to J. for sending in the link!

Ben Rawson-Joneshas re-reviewed Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure for Digital Spy for the film’s 25th anniversary of it’s theatrical release. All in all, it is a decent review and it appears that the author’s appreciation for the film has grown with time. Some of the money quotes include:

…the tone is tantamount to sunshine being captured on celluloid. It’s a time capsule of a bygone era before postmodernism struck, full of optimism and wide-eyed innocence instead of the cynicism, irony and self-referentiality that have permeated popular culture since the mid 1990s.

The effervescent lead performances by Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves as Bill and Ted disarm the viewer, with their wildly enthusiastic gesticulations and permanent smiles.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure works, despite its flaws, because of the conviction of the cast and crew to turn its childlike idea into fun. It makes for easy viewing, free from any lofty pretensions and adorned with a winning charm that emanates from the excellent leads Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter.
