Details on 47 Ronin Reshoot

The Hollywood Reporter is up with an article about all the reshoots that are plaguing Hollywood. A prominent producer is of the opinion that reshoots should in fact be referred as additional shooting. A former studio head adds that reshoots to pick up additional scenes is different from undertaking weeks of additional filming to fix a film.

With respect to 47 Ronin, a filmmaker points out that studios hire directors who lack experience to film big budget special effects movies in a down economy and that ultimately can cause trouble.

This appears to be the case with first time director Carl Rinsch. THR is reporting that:

Sources confirm the studio was aware during principal photography that Rinsch hadn’t done a satisfactory job with a key battle sequence at the film’s end. A closely supervised Rinsch will now shoot that sequence along with other material to bolster Reeves as the hero and enhance the romance.

Rumors have swirled around the 47 Ronin reshoot for months many centered on Rinsch being replaced for the additional scenes. We now have confirmation that he will be in charge of the additional filming but closely supervised. Guess we will have to wait and see how they enhance those romance scenes and bring Keanu Reeve’s character to the forefront.
