The PlayList, Collider and CinemaBlend all agree that Universal’ move to push back the 47 Ronin may have nothing to do with post-production issues and everything to do with the competition that has recently come onto the schedule in November.
Keeping the original November 21 date means that 47 Ronin would be sandwiched in between the James Bond thriller, Skyfall, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, not to mention that it would be opening against Alfonso Cuarón’s 3D movie, sci-fi tale, Gravity.
47 Ronin’s only competition on February 8, 2013 will be Nicholas Sparks’ adaptation of Safe Haven. As Collider and The PlayList point out, there will be little audience overlap between the films and it makes good business sense for Universal to position Ronin in such a manner.
